Dance

Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation?
Have you ever given orders to the morning,
or shown the dawn its place,
Do you send the lightning bolts on their way?
Do they report to you, 'Here we are'?
(excerts from Job 38)

A show I have enjoyed watching lately is So you think you can Dance. It has definately renewed my interest in dancing again.

I have only ever recieved the most basic of trainging, and I know I will never be a great dancer, but still I like to prace around my room when no one is watching. It seems silly, but when I dance I always remember that line from Chariots of Fire "When I run, I feel his (God's) pleasure" Thats sometimes how I feel when I dance.

In Bible study last week we read Job 38. Follow the link to read the whole thing, basically it's God reminding Job of how big and powerful and amazing God is, and how insignificant we are. When I read it I felt overcome by the amazing thought that the God that made the earth, who controls the weather, who makes the sun rise and fall cared enough about me to do something so I could have a relationship with him.

:) I watched some of last nights show too. It's amazing what the human body can do! I think Shelby might like dancing at some point in her life. However, just watching So you think you can dance has horrified me how much we've sexualised dancing though. I don't think I could let my 4 yr old learn to dance in a provocative way and it seems like all dance involves that nowadays. A dance is so beautiful and can glorify God but sin has tainted it so much. Matt refuses to watch it with me so I don't watch it if he's around since it is so sexualised.

Yeah, maybe I shouldn't be advocating it as a good show to watch.

I have also been a bit worried about the way they dance at times. It saddens me that we think you can only dance beautifully if you dance provocatively. (I haven't actually seen last nights episode cos I was at church and taped it)
I respect that Matt doesn't watch it.

Maybe you should get Shelby to do Irish dancing (like I did!) - the traditional costumes are modest and it's very unprovocative.

Hey that's a really good idea about getting into some form of traditional dance. I couldn't believe that even the "ballroom" dance style could be sexualised. It was still the most beautiful of the dances I saw on Sunday night though. :)

I've already been dancing this morning with Shelby since the first thing she wanted after her breastmilk was to turn on the radio (Classic Breakfast 92.9) and dance....

I have never seen the show, nor have I ever taken dancing lessons. I would love to be able to dance but I am just not very good at it... I've got the moves in my soul, just not in my body. haha.
