A while ago I was trained to be a supervisor at work. One of the things I now do is to open the shop. This involves getting to the centre at least half an hour before the shops open.
I prefer the shopping centre this way. There is no music blaring over the speakers. It's almost silent, except for the occasional sound of a roller security door being open and closed.
There are no people, just wide open spaces. The light comes from the large skylights, not the fluorescent globes.
For the briefest moment the centre is nice and peaceful. And then the clock ticks over to 9:00.
